STUDENTS from Salesian institutions in Port Moresby were taught the importance of taking care of the environment at their annual Wantok Bosco celebrations recently.
The 220 students met at the Don Bosco Technical School, (DBTS) Gabutu, under the theme “good Christians and upright citizens” to learn how to care for the environment and how to manage waste using the 3Rs method (reducing, reusing and recycling).
Fr Pedro Sachitula, rector of DBTS, said the sessions for the entire camp were crafted to educate and involve students and the public to develop firm convictions about the need to take care of the environment.
“As a way of living and co-existing with the environment, we need to learn ways of managing our waste through reducing, reusing and recycling,” he said.
Don Bosco Technological Institute school student Ernest Ovia said the 3R were significant experiences of the camp as she realised that she could turn trash into something useful.
