A SUSPECT is in police custody and three others are at large following the death of a village court official in Lae yesterday.
John Cedric, a father of three from Menyamya, Morobe, was returning home from work between 6.30pm and 7pm on Monday when he was allegedly robbed and stabbed by four men.
Cedric worked as a provincial village court inspector and kiap (patrol officer).
He resided with his family at Menyamya Block in Bumayong.
Samuel Yamandi, a close friend, who took the deceased to Angau Memorial Hospital said Cedric called him when he finished work and he went to meet him.
While waiting for Cedric at a road junction, Yamandi heard the deceased calling out in distress a short distance down the road and ran to the scene to find him with a kitchen knife in his hand and blood all over his body.
“He then told me that some men took his phone and other possessions and in the process stabbed him in the chest with the knife,” Yamandi said.
“I called my brothers and we rushed him to the hospital on Monday night.”
The suspect is in custody at the Malahang police station while investigation is ongoing.
