SVD meet in Madang

MISSIONARIES of the Divine Word (SVD) assembled in the SVD Central House in Madang for their week-long chapter. The PNG-SVD Chapter takes place every three years. Thirty-six elected and ex-officio members are discussing, evaluating and planning their life and ministry in Papua New Guinea.
The theme of the chapter is: “Your Light Must shine before others: Creative and Faithful Disciples in the Mission of PNG.”
SVD missionaries first arrived in PNG in 1896 (128 years ago) in Alexishafen in Morobe and have eventually spread their work to eight Catholic Dioceses in eight provinces.
There are 104 members: four bishops, 63 priests, 12 brothers and 25 scholastics. They are missionaries from 14 countries, including PNG.
They are involved in the Divine Word University, parishes, media, health and seminary education.
