FORMER Papua New Guinea Kumul and Doncaster centre Jason Tali was voted as the player of the year for English tier-two rugby league club during the awards night at Keepmoat Stadium last Friday.
The 33-year-old scored 12 tries across 19 appearances all season and was now ranked as Doncaster’s third all-time try scorer.
Tali was also handed his second St John Ellis back of the year award.
The Western Highlander had an impressive season with Doncaster which saw him play his 100th game with the club in June and his first grand final last month.
“I’m really grateful to receive these two awards,” Tali told The National yesterday.
“It has been a great year for the club and a wonderful achievement in my career.
“It has been a challenging season for us with players suffering injuries while some were diagnosed with the Coronavirus, but we managed to reach the final.”
Earlier last month, Doncaster chief executive Carl Hall commended Tali and countryman Watson Boas for their contributions to the club.
“The pair have contributed massively in us reaching the grand final,” Hall said. Tali has been with the club since 2016 and is expected to sign an extension this month.
“I’ve been waiting on my visa to be approved and now that it has been sorted, I should re-sign with the club at the end of this month,” he said.
