PORT Moresby Vipers centre Ben Wemin says he aims to help his off-season team QPR Colts defend their championship crown in the upcoming Sepik Nines.
The event is set to be held at Pora Oval in Wewak from Nov 26-27 with 16 teams from around the country confirming their participation.
Wemin told The National yesterday that his side will not take the tournament lightly as they wanted to retain the trophy.
“I know this year’s tournament will be bigger and stronger compared to last year,” the Chimbu man said.
“And I’m sure the other teams will compete hard this time so there is no space for complacency.
“Our players know what we are up against so we definitely we are well prepared.”
Wemin said the Colts side had several experienced campaigners in their side that would combine well with their young exciting talent.
“I believe we will have the experience of my fellow Vipers like Aaron Kamba, Thompson Teteh, my brother Tony Wemin from Hela Wigmen and couple more players from Digicel Cup so it’s a solid team,” he said.
“But despite of all that experience we have, anything can happen in rugby league and we are training hard to make sure we perform to our best in the tournament.”
Meanwhile, Wemin said an off-season tournament like the Sepik Agmark Nines was a good platform to keep the Digicel Cup players fit during the off-season.
“We have many off-season competitions and Sepik Agmark Nines is one of the tough competitions I guess.
