NASFUND Contributors Savings and Loans Society (NCSL) chairman Ian Tarutia says the society will treat queries of members affected by the coronavirus “sensitively”.
Tarutia said they were discussing with the Government on how best to assist members during this time.
“We acknowledge that times are tough,” he said.
“We acknowledge the good work that the National Government is doing in terms of preventative measures.
“We are part of the national conversation in terms of finding solutions and outcomes that will get us through these challenging times.
“In terms of our membership, if there is going to be any stress felt, in terms of difficulty meeting the obligations, we’ll be looking at those issues as they come to our attention on a case by case basis.
“We are treating everything sensitively.”
Director Vera Raga said the Nasfund Contributors Savings and Loans Society was looking at what was being proposed by some financial institutions.
“That is for NCSL to continue to operate and continue to provide critical business necessary to ensure necessary financial services are made available to the public,” he said.
“We will continue to assess and determine operating hours if advised by the Central Bank, if there are any changes.
“The society will ensure that all staff and clients’ health are protected at all time.
“If there are breaches of prudential requirements arising from this, the bank will be asked to step in and assist the society to waive those accordingly.
“There may also be relief to our members if they are defaulters impacted by Covid-19,
“We may look to exploring the possibility of not reporting them to credit data bureau within the period and each case will be assessed on its own merit.”
