Team Black take Isuzu National Cup

TEAM Black are the winners of the Isuzu National Cup after three rounds of competition for the 50-over tournament which ended on Sunday at Amini Park in Port Moresby.
Black’s overall scores from their past six matches put them in front of Yellow and Red.
The final round saw Red’s Hiri Hiri belt his second century of the tournament despite losing by 31 runs to Yellow on Saturday with Yellow posting an impressive total nine for 268 at the end of the first innings.
Hiri, along with teammate Timothy Mou, collected three wickets while Yellow’s Jason Kila (52 runs) and Alei Nao (38 not out) helped their side reach 268.
Red closed the margin with Hiri scoring 103 runs along with Damien Ravu’s 42 but they fell short with Red all out for 237 in the 44th over.
A masterclass from Yellow’s Norman Vanua saw him take four wickets while conceding 23 runs in his 10 overs.
Red bounced back on Sunday to beat Black by 90 runs with Hiri (35) and Charles Amini Jr (18) to go all out for 159 inside 35 overs.
But Black fell short in their chase, managing just 70 runs.
Red’s Kabua Vagi took five wickets from seven overs while teammate Timothy Mou bagged three wickets from three overs to end Black’s innings in the 20th over (all out).
Cricket action continues today for the Curtain Brothers Women’s T20 Smash, with Black Bass facing Mudmen in the opening match.
