Team to probe major cases

A TEAM of 17 police officers will be sent to the Yangoru-Saussia electorate in East Sepik to investigate major criminal cases, provincial police commander Superintendent Robert Gesa says.
“There will be 12 men from the Mobile Squad and five Port Moresby-based detectives to investigate outstanding armed robberies, murder, rape and other serious cases,” Gesa said.
Gesa said Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru had asked for the investigation following the
killing of a PMV driver on the Sepik Highway last month.
“There have been many outstanding serious criminal incidents in that electorate before I came here,” he said.
“I did a mini operations order for 14 days with the Yangoru police station commander and have submitted (the report) to the border division commander in Port Moresby.”
However the police force has no funds to do this mini operation.
“So Maru has come in to support the operations because he is concerned about the agro-industrial projects in the Sepik plains,” he said.
“Israeli investors are keen to invest in agro industry projects in the Sepik plains.”
Gesa said four men had been arrested over the killing of the driver at Wamaian village.
