THREE men are recovering from serious injuries that resulted from a brawl at Siroga Oil Palm Estate in Northern after the State of Origin rugby league match on Sunday night
Northern acting police commander Chief Sergeant Edric Boera told The National that supporters of the losing Maroons team attacked three men with stone and assaulted them.
Boera said a group of men were watching the game at the oil palm company premises when towards the end of the match about five Maroons supporters attacked three supporters of the Blues team.
“The three victims were assaulted seriously on Sunday night and were taken to the company health centre at Siroga where they were treated and discharged,” he said.
“The oil palm company security tried to stop them but the men were under the influence of alcohol and it was difficult.
“We have the names of those involved in the attack and they were known to the community so
the offenders will be apprehended.”
Boera appealed to the communities to surrender those suspects to the police. “It was a serious assault case because one of the three men was hit with a stone on his chest and he almost died,” he said.
“The suspects will have to come forward and be apprehended.
“This should serve as a lesson for such behavior.”
