TWO-TIME gold pass winners Toks Mix Dogs are vying to make it three in row in the Central leg of the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup.
The Dogs, led by former Enga Mioks forward Gerry Ware, started their campaign with a 12-8 victory over the Surinki Samu Raiders.
Leading 6-2 at halftime, the defending champions looked on course to earn an easy win.
However, crucial plays by Raiders hooker Presley Soto and centre James Roberts backed up by forward Jonathan Soto had the Dogs on their toes after the break.
Roberts caught a floater from Soto and crossed over for a try, with the successful conversion edging the Raiders ahead 8-6.
But Ware crashed over on the stroke of fulltime and centre Gabby Taune slotted home the conversion to snatch the victory.
Meanwhile, the third round of matches for the Central leg is scheduled for today, followed by first lot of NCD preliminary finals fixtures at 1pm.
