THAILAND will continue to support PNG in its areas of interest like agriculture, fisheries, public health and tourism, says Ambassador Nantana Sivakua.
She said this when presenting her letters of credence to Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae at Government House in Port Moresby yesterday.
Sivakua said from January to July, the total trade between the two countries reached $US276 million (K902m).
“On the aspect of development and technical assistance cooperation, in which Thailand has been fortunately guided by the late Bhumibol’s Sufficiency Economic Philosophy, we have shared experiences and good practices with the Independent State of PNG for a number of years through training courses and scholarships in the areas of PNG’s interest, namely agriculture, fisheries, public health and tourism,” she said.
Dadae said diplomatic relations were maintained since 1976 and both countries enjoyed friendly ties over the past years.
“Papua New Guinea is opening up its doors to others to take part in the economic opportunities and Thailand is encouraged to invest in the growing areas of mining, oil and gas, fisheries and others. Consequently, this will lead to more interaction and discussions to enhance the need to formalising key bilateral instruments of economic and technical cooperation,” he said.
