EDUCATION on anti-doping, mental skills and codes of conduct were some of the topics covered during Team Papua New Guinea’s Olympic training camp at the National Sports Institute in Goroka last week.
PNG Olympic Committee executive officer Desmond Kaviagu said last week that the fourth day of the camp (Wednesday) also focused on sports nutrition as part of Team PNG’s preparations for next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
“We’ve looked at clarifying the athlete and sport-specific goals to aid their bid to qualify for Tokyo,” he said.
“Sports looked at their performance and outcomes and what they are currently doing to ensure they can meet their goals.
“Following that, we had Dr Stephanie Harahan, a sports psychologist from the University of Queensland, join in virtually to provide some mental skills training that looked at self-confidence, imagery and visualisation as well as performance muscle relaxation.”
