A SKILLS training centre at Kaisa in Bumayong, Nawaeb district in Morobe, is giving youths a second chance in life.
Anuya Skills Training Centre, established in 2013, has trained more than 100 youths over the last five years in motor mechanics, spray painting, panel beating, carpentry and other life skills.
Programme director Willie Mayang said the centre, which was established to assist in youth rehabilitation, began with 47 young men.
“These young men went through a rehabilitation camp to have their mindsets changed to keep them away from taking part in illegal activities,” he said.
“The only way to stop them from unlawful activities was through skills training. There has been too much talk on minimising law and order but authorities do not get to its root cause.”
