Transmitter to boost coverage

National

COMMUNICATION and Information Technology Minister Timothy Masiu and Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu officiated at a ground breaking ceremony for the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) medium wave transmitter to be installed in Fimito, outside Goroka town, yesterday.
Masiu said once the transmitter was set up, it would provide radio waves to the people not only in Eastern Highlands, but for the rest of the Highlands region and nearby regions.
“The people of Eastern Highlands should be proud that the NBC has chosen Goroka to host this national asset,” he said.
Masiu thanked the Government for releasing K1 million to NBC to increase radio coverage in the Highlands region.
He said without adequate radio coverage, people were missing out on important information and government messages and development information.
“When the K1 million becomes available through NBC, I have instructed the management to purchase a 10-kilowatt transmitter for Goroka.
“Fimito is NBC land and once the transmitter is installed it will increase coverage to all the Highlands region, it will reach Madang, Morobe and Gulf provinces,” Masiu said.
Governor Numu thanked Masiu and NBC for choosing Goroka to host this national asset.
“Information is powerful and key to development and dissemination of vital information to the people is very important,” he said.
