REIGNING Digicel Cup runners-up Waghi Tumbe say they are happy to share their home ground, Minj’s Jonah Ambane Oval, with Goroka Lahanis and Mt Hagen Eagles in the new Digicel Cup season.
Tumbe chairman Paul Tumun told The National yesterday that the Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition (PNGNRLC) had made a wise decision as Minj was a peaceful town.
“We have no control over the draws and allocation of venues as it is the competition’s choice,” he said.
“We are happy to see the Eagles and Lahanis given home games in Minj.
“The Jonah Ambane Oval is a standard Digicel Cup venue and I’m confident the teams that are using the venue will like playing here.
“It was the same last year, the two teams hosted most of their home games in Minj.
“So it’s great to see the arrangement continue in the upcoming season until they are given permission by the competition to return to their home venues.”
Tumun assured other visiting teams that the upcoming general election would not affect matches in Minj.
