Tumbe to roll out young squad in second round

THE Waghi Tumbe will continue to unleash their squad of talent but inexperienced talents at the might of the Port Moresby Vipers in their round 2 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup match on Sunday.
Tumbe coach Baundo Abba told The National that their plan for the season was to debut their new talent over the first half of the season to get the exposure and feeling of playing at a higher level competition.
“Its best we give them the opportunity at the early stages of the competition,” Abba said.
“By then these young players will hopefully know what’s expected of them at this level. They will know when, where and how to play on the field, adjust and make improvements in their development and that is basically our plan for this season.
“They’ve got the potential and everything and that’s why they’re in the squad. Our win last week against the Dabaris was a close win and we’re expecting much more improvement this Sunday in our game against the Vipers.
“They know where they went wrong so they will pick up this weekend. Our faith is on few experienced boys in the squad, they’ll be leading by example.
“Having said that, my boys are ready and we’re all set for this Sunday against the hosts Vipers.”
Tumbe wil face their sternest test yet in the semi-professional competition taking on a Vipers side with former Hunters half Charlie Simon at the helm. The Tumbe key men include fullback Jesse Mathew, halves David Joseph and Francis Sam and hooker Job Kar.
