THE University of Goroka (UOG) has tightened security on campus as academic programmes resume amidst the state of emergency (SOE).
Pro-vice chancellor policy and planning Donald Gumbis confirmed that all entry gates were closed except the main gate with entries and exits being strictly monitored.
“Strict measures in place to control entries and exists at the main gates, entries would be through valid passes issued by my office,” he said.
Gumbis said students, staff and families with valid identification cards and vehicles with passes would be allowed to move in and out of the campus.
He urged students, staff and stakeholders to comply with instructions.
He said passes could be obtained through his office and security guards manning the main gate.
“There is a very strict surveillance system set up to avoid the possible spread of the coronavirus. Students and new people or students returning from home will undergo checks before being allowed on campus.”
Meanwhile, the Down Under settlement at the back of the campus is restricted from accessing university premises, and were told to pass through the main gates.
Gumbis said entry and exit would only be allowed between 8am and 10am for the morning hours and 12pm to 4pm in the afternoon and not at any other time.
“All the guards and securities are on high alert to control the movement of the people.”
Chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb commended the special UOG Covid-19 response committee headed by Gumbis for putting safety measures in place.
