UNITED Brothers claimed the Port Moresby Men’s Softball Association pre-season title with a 7-0 win over Gazelle at the Bisini Diamonds yesterday.
Brothers walked off with a prize money of K2,010 and Gazelle claimed K1,345.
This concluded the three-week pre-season with the association looking forward to its season next week.
Association vice-president Ali Daveona said the pre-season started three weeks ago with 10 teams, however, it was a slow start with matches forfeited.
With the matches being forfeited, coordinator Constantine Bais changed the games format for the semifinals which saw the top-two teams in each pool (Pool A and B) play off in a criss-cross format and the winners advanced to the grand final.
The top-two teams in each pool competed in the criss-cross format where the first team in Pool A played the second team in Pool B and the first team in Pool B played the second team in Pool A with the winners advancing to the grand final.
In the semifinals, Gazelle beat Defense 7-2 and Brothers defeated Bears 6-3.
The prize monies for the pre-season doubled in the finals with the participating teams walking away with monies ranging from K70 to K2,000.
The season starts next week with 11 teams.
