University death worries Madang governor

MADANG Governor Peter Yama has condemned the death of a Divine Word University student on campus on Tuesday night and urged police to be quick with the investigation.
The student, identified as Christopher Saoni, from Nuku in West Sepik, was a final-year business studies student.
He was found dead beside his classroom.
Madang provincial police commander Ben Neneo said reports about the student’s death were sketchy.
Neneo said the death was suspicious and it was possible that the student was killed somewhere else then taken to where his body was found.
Yama said he had received reports that there was a fight earlier on campus before the student was found.
He urged the university and police to fast-track investigations to see if it was murder.
“I am concern because this happened in my province in my term as governor,” Yama said.
“We need leaders of tomorrow and it is very unfortunate that we lose one of them in this manner.”
The Nuku community in Madang has also expressed concern about the security of students while they study away from their homes and parents.
Classes at DWU were disrupted on Wednesday as students went to the Modilon Hospital emergency unit hoping to get news of the death.
