STUDENTS, staff, management and council members at the University of Goroka will be insured this year, says Vice-Chancellor Professor Musawe Sinebare.
‘’We are taking insurance cover for everyone at UOG. As soon as a student is registered, he or she is covered by insurance,” he said.
The university will also issue serial numbers to students during their registration.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic Research and Innovations Teng Watinga said each student would be issued a serial number and registration form.
“There will be no photocopy and duplication of registration forms as it will have one serial number. It will be issued to students on the acceptance list,” he said.
“Students will be accepted to register upon the payment of at least 75 per cent of the fees.”
He said K20 would be charged for late registration. Classes for Semester One start on Monday.
Sinebare said a committee tasked to review the Student Representative Council was yet to report back to the management.
He said the previous constitution promoted ethnicity, regionalism and affiliation which created problems for the university.
“The constitution is the framework to allow students to have their rights to be involved in a proper manner,” he said.
Sinebare said associations formed by academic and non-academic staff should be back this year.
Pro-Chancellor Dr Julian Kamas thanked the Government for increasing the budget for UOG in 2018.
Pro Vice-Chancellor administration Donald Gumbis said they expected between 3,500 and 4000 students to be registered this year.
