Urakusie backing younger brother to lead Goroka club

CAPTAIN Gonzella Urakusie is backing his younger brother and fellow Goroka Lahanis forward Christopher Urakusie to help lead the side when he retires at the end of the upcoming season.
The 30-year-old former SP Hunter told The National this week that his younger sibling, who is 187cm tall and weighs 103kg, had the makings of an elite player.
“I see Christopher as a new version of me but with so much more potential and I believe he can achieve more in rugby league compared with me,” Urakusie said of his 23-year-old brother.
“He is capable of making the Hunters and Papua New Guinea Kumuls squads.
“He has great size and good agility which can be developed further but if only he remains committed to rugby league.
“He is working with the Institute of Medical Research in Goroka and trains with the Lahanis.
“But I am not sure if he can juggle work and playing rugby league at the same time. I just hope he manages his time well.”
The younger Urakusie made his debut with the Bintangor-sponsored side last year and played most of the season off the bench.
The captain said his brother would boost the Lahanis’ title hopes.
The club last won the Digicel Cup in 2018.
