Use of inappropriate language worries clergy

A clergy man in Morobe has raised concern over the use of inappropriate languages by young people.
Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG (ELC PNG) Yabim district president Reverend (Rev) Yasam Aiwara said many young people nowadays used a lot of inappropriate names to address especially people in authority.
He said young people were addressing people like pastors, teachers, administrators and managers as bats, sis, paps and mams in Tok Pisin with no regard to their professional titles.
“Where do you get these names from? These are not their names, I don’t know exactly who you are referring to as paps and mams. Or is it a mixture of Tok Pisin and English,” Rev Aiwara said.
He said Christ has given human beings the power of reason to address and comply with the expected standards in life.
Aiwara said people’s level of thinking and accepting things in life has seen many still living in poverty.
He said this was one major concerns for the church and they wanted to eradicate it starting with the young people.
Aiwara said even some educated and professional people were using inappropriate language in their society.
“Many dress neatly but when they get home they struggle to cook food in open fires and get ash on their faces,” he said.
“The mindsets of people have to change if they want change in their societies, especially in the standard of living, reasoning and how we conduct ourselves.”
