Vanuatu’s Luganville Soccer City Stadium hosted an action-packed Group B in this year’s Oceania Football Confederation Champions League.
There was never a dull moment in the group with goals galore during matches played in scorching conditions in February.
Home side Malampa Revivors eventually topped the pool after delivering a masterful performance to beat Papua New Guinea’s Lae City 3-0 in their final match courtesy of an Andre Batick hat-trick.
Batick’s treble was sweet redemption after he was handed a red card in their opening pool match and had to sit out the second game due to suspension.
But while Batick was among the goalscorers in the final outing, three other players showcased the group’s best strikes.
City’s Nigel Dabinyaba and Raymond Gunemba scored scintillating goals during their team’s 7-0 rout of Fijian club Lautoka, while Edwin Bai’s effort for Malampa against the Henderson Eels was also one of the best on offer.
While Malampa finished first in the group, Solomon Islands club Henderson Eels also advanced as they came second, only trailing the Revivors on goal difference.
The group was closely contested throughout the three match days with Malampa and Henderson both winning only one game and drawing two each. Lae City finished third with Lautoka in fourth.
Henderson beat Lautoka 3-2 in their final outing, scoring three goals in the final 25 minutes to come back from 0-2 down. The winning goal came in the sixth minute of additional time through Joses Nawo.
City’s Emmanuel Simon led the golden boot chart for the pool with four goals in three games. – OFC
