THE Goroka urban village court dealt with more than 20 adultery cases every week, says chairman of the village court Joe Kerema.
Kerema said adultery cases outnumbered other criminal cases coming before them every week at Peace Park in Goroka town.
“We get over 10 adultery cases every Monday and another 20 again on Thursday – the two days we hear cases during the week,” he said.
Kerema said the court collected around K4600 in fines every week from the cheating husbands or wives and their partners.
“In a year, more than K101,000 is raised in internal revenue through only adultery cases,” he said.
Kerema said the second most frequently cases were on divorce with at least 10 cases a week.
“Young couples who got married without any solid foundation could not stablise their lives and end up in marital problems, ending up in court for divorce,” he said.
He said couples seeking divorce were aged between 15 and 50.
Village court Magistrate Ken Rumba said adultery cases were on the rise in Goroka.
