VILLAGERS of Aluki in the Nawaeb district of Morobe are raising funds to complete a church building.
The church is being built in memory of the late Reverend Dr Wesley Kigasung, a former head bishop of the Lutheran Church.
In July 2002, with the help of villagers and friends in Lae, he laid the foundation for the only permanent church building in his village.
He was elected head bishop in 1998 at a synod in Kimbe, West New Britain, and served for four consecutive terms.
He died on May 14, 2008, at the age of 58.
Aluki village is made up of two major clans, five sub-clans, and has a population of between 300 and 400 people.
Waekesa Lum Dabung Foundation vice-chairwoman Fiona Yapi-Daniels said it was the dream of Kigasung to have a permanent church building in the village.
