THE Papua New Guinea Volleyball Federation has resumed operations after receiving approval from the PNG Sports Foundation to resume its competitions, according to an official.
Federation president Kila Dick told The National that their associations across the country had been warned to follow volleyball’s new Covid-19 protocols. “We’ve done extremely well because we got approval after we made a submission on our sport’s protocols,” he said.
“We’ve now advised all our associations to appeal to the federation to resume their competitions.
“They must understand and follow the protocols in order to manage their competitions safely.
“As of last weekend, they were given the green light to go ahead and resume our competitions.
“So we’re expecting associations to plan accordingly.
“We feel that we should not deprive the sporting interest of many of our young players who are keen to return to regular matches.
“It’s great for us and I know some sports have yet to get clearance.
“I’m happy that we’ve done our part to make sure that we resume our competitions.”
Dick warned that non-compliance with the protocols would result in penalties from the federation. The protocols safeguard the health and safety of players and officials with emphasis on social distancing and basic hygiene during matches.
