Wallaby Genia visits Defence bowling club

PAPUA New Guinea-born Australian Wallabies srumhalf Will Genia was s special guest at the Defence bowling club on Sunday afternoon.
Genia, who is currently on holiday with his fiancé Vanessa took time out to watch his cousin and PNG junior female bowler Georgina ToVo play in the finals of the club fours bowls tournament at the weekend.
His aunt Grace Walsh and cousin Collin Morove were among family members who organised his visit to the club.
Morove was the sponsor of the two-day event.
Defence bowling club president Chris Kenevi and madam club president Jacqueline Tarue-Krewanty thanked Genia for visiting the club at Murray Barracks.
Kenevi said although Genia did not play bowls, some of his family members were gracing the greens.
Genia was given the honour to do the presentation at the event.
He thanked the club for inviting him and wished the bowlers a happy festive season.
Woman bowler Espina McNae was privileged to meet the Australian Wallabies scrumhalf in person after watching him on television.
“I am really excited to meet my very own Papua New Guinean making big time in rugby union overseas.
“But he always has time to trace his roots back to PNG, especially Lalaura, Aroma Coast,” she said.
Young bowler Gariga Babona, who posed for a photograph with Genia, said he would treasure it and take it to school to show it to his mates.
Babona was one of the youngest bowlers to represent PNG at the Arafura Games.
