WINGER Solo Wane says he was thrilled to make his SP Hunters debut in their 14-48 loss to Souths Logan in round seven of the Queensland Intrust Super Cup (ISC) at Davies Park in Brisbane on Sunday.
The 2020 Digicel Cup winger of the year told The National after the game that he was proud to be a Hunter. Hela Wigmen product Wane, from Komia village in Upper-Mendi, Southern Highlands, said he was happy to score a try on debut.
“It’s everyone’s dream to wear the Hunters jersey,” said the 22-year-old.
“For me to make my debut is a dream come true and I am honoured.
“I’m happy to play for my family and country. To be honest, I was nervous when I was named by coach (Matthew Church) in the starting side.
“The ISC is tougher than the Digicel Cup but with the support of my teammates I completed the game.
“It wasn’t the result I wanted in my first game, but I was lucky enough to score a try.”
Wane said he was confident that the Hunters would rebound against 2018 champions Redcliffe Dolphins in round eight at Moreton Daily Stadium in Brisbane next Saturday (6pm kick-off).
“I still believe that we can come back strong in round eight,” he said.
“We won’t be playing this week, so we can use the break to work on our mistakes.
“We will polish up on our weaknesses and be a better side against the Dolphins.”
