Warning on sea travel issued

CONTINUOUS warnings have been given to people living along the maritime provinces and districts not to travel by sea because rough seas, flood and strong winds were ongoing.
A special weather warning alert call was made by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Westly Nukundj in Port Moresby last week.
“I appeal to everyone, to be alert when going out to sea, travelling along our inland waterways and those travelling along the roads to look out for potential dangers,” he said.
The National Weather Office has continued to caution the public including those airline companies and shipping vessels and local travellers.
The National Weather Service director Samuel Maiha had urged the people to take heed of weather warnings.
The weather service has predicted that country may have subdued rainfall starting this week.
Police in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville said they were still waiting for the weather service office to inform the people if the sea condition was safer for the travellers to go out on sea.
Autonomous Region of Bougainville Sup Operations Godwin Dukaduka said the weather in Buka town was fine but they have not confirm other parts of the province yet.
“We have not receive any warning and reports from the weather service office yet if our sea is fine for travellers,” he said.
Strong wind, heavy rain and rough seas in most parts of the country has not affected part of the Bougainville but has only experience few gloomy days.
He said there were strong wind over the weekend but no reports of any sea accidents so far.
Police have not receive the update of weather report yet to inform the public, reports will be confirm soon.
The province have experienced fine weather and quiet over the festive seasons.
