We can do better

Letters

AS our leaders bicker over issues without any real action, our country continues to suffer.
While they’re busy playing politics, the country is falling apart.
The people have the power to change this.
We have a poor health system, poor education outcomes, no economic growth to create jobs, increase in law and order problems and a lack of any leadership on protecting the country from the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
If this isn’t frightening, I don’t know what is.
We are in debt.
We have no good plans to generate revenue and repay our debts and create jobs despite the abundant resources.
After 46 years, we have shown that we often struggle to build capacity and capability due to poor leadership, incompetence and greed.
This results in a lack of trust from our international partners and investors.
While the Covid-19 is creating havoc, some lucky people are benefiting from the funds for Covid-19 operations while businesses and individuals suffer the effects of it.
Who will feed these businesses and individuals?
The only thing keeping PNG’s bloated public service alive is the foreign aid money and the efforts of the private sector in paying taxes.
Despite businesses keeping PNG afloat, the Government is failing to support businesses.
Our people need to learn that unless we change our mindsets we will continue to struggle and become a “failed state”.
But we can turn this around.
We can start ourselves on a journey of recovery and realise our potentials.
We still have the potential to be successful.
We need to stop spending more time on social media.
We should start supporting leaders with vision, values and actions and stop waiting for others to give us benefits.
Start putting our hands up.
Stop asking for more and start doing more.
Stop taking and start giving.
PNG should be everything we all know it can be.
It just needs all of us to desire it and work hard to make it happen.

Let’s Go PNG
