We can improve: Steven

DEPUTY Prime Minister Davis Steven says Papua New Guinea is still facing stiff socio-economic challenges after 44 years of self-governance.
He said this at the second graduation of the Joint Forces College at the Igam Military Barrack in Lae on Friday.
“Why do we continue to struggle in a resource rich nation of great promise?
“I reiterate what Prime Minister James Marape said: If not us who will?
“ if not now when do we start?
“When do we start a journey to restore hope and confidence of our people in Government institutions and in the democratic ideas we stand for?”
“These are also the challenges the Correctional Services, Royal PNG Constabulary and PNG Defence Force are facing.
“These challenges in the three disciplined forces can be turned into opportunities for the nation to go forward.”
As chairman of the Law and Justice Sector Ministerial Committee, Steven said the nation had invested much money into the forces budgets.
“But statistics show that law and order woes and crime rates are rising every year. “Our homes are not happy, our workers go home troubled.
“These are the challenges for us and you young cadets to overcome and address,” Steven said.”
