Western needs development

Letters

I HAVE been following the PNGSDP saga closely and the other factions who are at loggerheads over the monetary treasures in Singapore.
Western will continue to be likened to an old shackled emaciated man making ends meet under a torn tarpaulin, knowing that his inheritance is squandered at his ignorance and incapacity to be represented equally.
This province comprises of 14 LLGs and is represented by tribal groups.
Remember, the province is made up equally and, as such, no tribe is the sole heir to benefits that should be distributed across the table.
When will real development and infrastructure be established in the rural areas of Western?
When its status of being a resource provincial capital will be alleviated?
In my view, Western and its people will not inherit the mass fortune because there are parties sitting as well to take what is termed as the “people’s money”.
Investments made with the long-term funds will benefit a few, not all.
The status of CMCA and non-CMCA funds must be established.
That money that causes disharmony and strife among us as a province is disheartening, why should a system divide and create enmity among us?
Western we will survive by the grace of God, regardless if we are accorded our rights and privileges.
Plans must be made for life after the closure of the mine, plans that include the non-affected areas of Western.
Western is a milking cow and its people are spectators with no tangible benefits. Before the mine does close or not, key infrastructure assets must be established in the rural economy.
Maturity and discretion is needed when addressing this matter.
Western deserves better terms of participation – we don’t need money, we need roads, upgraded village aid posts, proper water supply, barges and ferries, as this are key infrastructure assets that we will benefit from when the mine does close.
To the people of this province, let us rise and make our plight known.

  • Yes, western people need to really wake up and RISE UP. You need to start electing leaders at both level of Government that can truly represent our interest. We can not continue to play hausline politics (inap lon makim hausline). Look far and wide within the constituent. Election period should be the time people assess all candidates on their knowledge, characters, qualifications, experiences, standings, etc. and not the normal wantok system because it is through such that we’ve missed out on all sorts of development. We need to elect leaders who can really translate dreams and visions into actions, leaders who understands government systems processes, project management experiences, engineering knowledge, instead of good old rhetorics that makes us think as if development happens just like a snap of a finger.
