Where’s the pay increase?

Letters

IT has come to the end of the year and yet there is still a lack of information from the Education department, Teachers Service Commission and the Government regarding the teachers’ promised three per cent pay rise.
The pay rise was well publicised in the media and gained much attention.
But it was all the sound of an empty drum with no water in it.
Some shameful factors to consider are:

  • Teachers continue to get paid on the same substantive levels as in 2016. When will the salary agreement for 2017 to 2019 be actioned?
  • Salary queries lodged by teachers at most times ended up collecting dust elsewhere. What were the officers tasked to sort it doing during office hours?
  • New graduates are not on the payroll.

These are just part of the many things which need looking into.
Anyway, can someone clarify the role of the Papua New Guinea Teachers’ Association?
PNGTA, your teachers are suffering big time so wakeup from your slumber and fight for their rights.
Those responsible have to consider paying up the promised three per cent pay rise before teachers resume next year.
