MORE than 400 people are travelling daily on Air Niugini to Western Highlands from Port Moresby during the festive season, according to general manager customers and markets Dominic Kaumu.
He said Air Niugini domestic and international flights had increased in the past three weeks.
“We call this period the Holiday Traffic because most people travel during these times to be with their loved ones,” Kaumu said.
“Air Niugini domestic flights to other provinces have increased but not as much as the Western Highlands flights.
“Due to the three to four Air Niugini flights per day, the Kagamuga airport has always had a very high demand number of flights departing from Port Moresby.”
Kaumu said the Dash-8 aircraft flew to Eastern Highlands, Tari, Wapenamanda and Mendi with only 36 passengers. East Sepik, Madang and Milne Bay flights also increased during this festive season. Air Niugini international flights to the Philippines were fully booked before Christmas.
The airline is prepared for travelling students in January and February.
“Not only Air Niugini flights going out from Port Moresby but Air Niugini flights going to provinces to cater for the students travelling to their schools,” he said.
Air Niguini operates domestic network from Port Moresby, Lae, and other centres, as well as international services in Asia, Oceania, and Australia.
