Why terrorise Highlands students?

Letters, Normal

I REFER to your report “Highlands students withdraw from Passam” (July 5).
As a fellow student, I am concerned that Highlands students are being deprived of their rights to education.
Our right to be educated is guaranteed by our Constitution.
The unruly behaviour of the local people is unethical.
I cannot understand why the Sepiks residing around Passam National High School are harassing the innocent students and teachers.
They are not the enemies or debtors.
These are young people who come from different places, speak different languages and their cultures are different.
The Sepiks have no right to terrorise the students and deny them getting an education.
Highlanders do not discriminate, rob, harass or terrorise students or teachers attending schools at any of the Highlands provinces.
We treat them as our friends and take them home for the holidays.
We see coastal students as human beings and treat them with dignity and respect.
