Wigmen appreciate Olo

HELA Wigmen coach Roderick Puname sang the praises of his hooker Stanley Olo, who was instrumental in his side’s 26-6 win over the Chimbu Warriors on Sunday.
Puname said Olo’s inclusion for the 2018 season had given his side a significant boost in its attack with the wily playmaker able to create numerous opportunities out of dummy half.
Olo, who joined the Kroton-sponsored side from the Agmark Gurias during the pre-season, has made a Wigmen a different proposition for defences.
“Stanley is an experienced dummy half and has helped improve our ruck and working with our halves to distribute the ball,” Puname said.
“With Olo and a few key players like Stanford Talita in our squad now we’ve got a better side and that’s helped us especially after our loss to the Tigers last week.”
Puname maintained that Olo had complemented the side well and enabled them to look smoother on attack against the Warriors.
Olo showed his value to the side wasn’t just confined to his work at dummy half — he kicked four conversions and a penalty goal.
The win sets up Sunday’s round 4 fixture which will see the Helas travel to Kokopo to play the Gurias.
Puname said while they had managed to crank out a win over the Warriors, the Gurias would be much harder to beat at Kalabond.
“We have to be much more to polished and be much more clinical in our defence and ruck areas to get on the Gurias quality side,” he said.
Olo told The National after the game against Warriors last Sunday that he was anticipating a great match against his old team and welcomed the challenge.
“I can’t wait to play the Gurias. They’re my old team and it will be good to face my old teammates,” Olo said.
“It’s not a pressure match for me. I’m just going to play my game and hopefully we can do enough right things to win the game.”
