HELA Wigmen forward Khaiya Ross has joined the Central Queensland Capras preseason camp on the New Year’s Eve is the hopes of making his Hostplus Cup debut with the Rockhampton-based side in 2024.
His movement comes after fellow countryman and former Capra Nixon Putt left the club to join the UK Super League club Castleford Tigers this season.
Wigmen chief executive Patrick Wundai confirmed with The National yesterday that the young front-rower from Western Highlands had joined the Capras. Ross would be the apparent replacement for Putt. Previously, former Wigmen captain Valentine Richard also got signed by Capras as a replacement for fellow Kumul and former Capra McKenzie Yei when he moved over to the UK to join Featherstone Rovers in 2022. Ross joins former Mendi Muruks winger Bob Tenza, Richard, Samuel Yegip and Zev John.
Ross is a Paga Panthers product in the Port Moresby Rugby League who got his Digicel ExxonMobil Cup debut in 2023.
