Classrooms at one of the wards in the Sumgilbar LLG in Sumkar, Madang. Locals say this is one of the two primary schools in the inland North Coast area that was abandoned many years ago due to lack of operational funds to support its operations. Community representative Desmond Sekum told The National basic government services in the area have deteriorated and people have migrated down to the coast in search of better services.
