Woman charged with breaching visa conditions

A FEMALE foreigner has been charged and locked up by police in Port Moresby for allegedly breaching visa conditions, according to Immigrations Minister Westley Nukundj.
Nukundj said in a statement last Friday that the woman was of Chinese origin and worked as a supervisor at a plywood factory at Laloki, Central.
He said the Immigration Department became aware of the foreigner after responding to a social media post about local workers at the factory being mistreated by foreigners.
Nukundj directed a team to investigate whether the foreigners had work permits and visa to be engaging in such business.
“In the process of the inspection, the team apprehended the supervisor at the factory who is a Chinese woman,” he said.
“They found that she had breached her visa conditions and violated visa rules and regulations. She was arrested, charged and locked up at the Boroko police station cells.
“Investigations will continue on all serious allegations and mistreatment of PNG workers.
“The department will come down very hard on foreigners who abuse their visa conditions.”
Nukundj urged citizens to use the media to report illegal activities of foreigners.
“This is the first positive sign and more of such will continue if citizens provide information.
“I want to remind all citizens and foreigners that my officers are monitoring issues of border security”
“Immigration’s focus now is to investigate and identify illegal immigrants with fake visas, mainly those whose conduct and actions are a threat to national security.”

  • Well done to the Immigration Dept and the good minister for a job well done. For our interest sake, can we be kept up to date with the case, so that we want to see a maximum penalty imposed on such aliens. Like she being blacklisted and deported to her country of origin, China.
