A MAGISTRATE has told off a woman charged with killing her husband, saying she had been earlier warned by the court to obtain an interim protection order against him.
Magistrate Edward Kupo told Michelle Tanggwo, 41, that she should have listened to what the court advised her to do when she had appeared earlier.
“I had already advised you when you came to court to get an IPO (interim protection order) for your case. Why didn’t you listen to the court?” Magistrate Kupo said.
“Did you expect God to advise you? Now look what you have got yourself and your family into. Have you thought about your children? Now, that you are (on remand) in jail, who will look after them and take care of them?”
Tanggwo and her brother Kitthy Tanggwo, 24, of Menyamya, are charged with the murder of Geoka Kupa, a teacher and Michelle’s defacto husband, on Dec 9, 2019 in Menyamya.
Magistrate Kupo recognised Michelle who had earlier last year sought an interim protection order against her husband.
“I always remind people in my court of such cases to forget about all the bad thoughts that are flooding your mind and think about the good thoughts. See a church pastor, village elder or a counsellor to help you,” Kupo said.
“Instead of making your life better, you are making your life a living nightmare. Think about your children and your family who will be forced to pay compensation to your husband’s family. And the tension you’ve brought among them.”
The case will return to court on Feb 19, 2020.
