Women’s group gets new leader

 THE United church’s Assembly Women’s Fellowship opened its 2013 conference with a number of highlights.

This year’s conference was based on the theme “I am a viable mother, making use of God’s wealthy resources”.

Spokeswoman Albertine Ehari said Heva Tetaga stood down as president of the assembly after three terms since 2004. 

She was succeeded by Marama Kisa Gabutu, the former AUCWF vice-president.

Ehari said the conference was told that the AUCWF handbook had been translated into the Kuanua and Huli languages, “a milestone for the women’s fellowship in Hela and New Britain regions”.

“It was noted that New Britain Women’s fellowship member numbers have increased from 9,000 to 14,000 since the 14th conference in Hula Nixon Memorial 2000 in 2010.

“The Hela region donated K5,000 to AUCWF for the National Resource Centre, a milestone project still under way. 

“The women’s fellowship is determined to see its dream come true in this important project,” Ehari said.
