A GROUP of young women brought style and attitude to the rehearsals stage in preparation for this year’s Miss Pacific Islands Pageant Papua New Guinea Project Runway recently, a coordinator says.
This year’s Project Runway is sponsored by Pacific Balanced Fund and will be held on August at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Port Moresby.
The categories on show at the Pacific Balanced Fund Project will be traditionally-inspired dress, sarong wear, and day and evening wear.
The event will showcase 11 talented designers who have created pieces in three categories as required by the MPIP PNG.
The winner of the traditionally inspired dress would travel to Fiji to be the stylist for Miss Papua New Guinea at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant in December.
The pageant offers young women from around the Pacific an opportunity to act as cultural ambassadors for their countries and promote the region’s many tourist attractions.
The MPIP of PNG is now in its seventh year.
Lavagirl founder, Annette Sete from Kokopo, a first time designer for the MPIP PNG Project Runway, said she was thankful for the opportunity to not only showcase her company’s creativity but also learn from others.
“I speak for the team as there are 10 of us working on every piece and puzzle of our items for the Project Runway from designs to printing to making jewelry to storytelling.”
She said it would be a great opportunity for them to do more branding awareness, networking and interaction with the Port Moresby market.
“It is a community event as well as a tourism event and we’re truly honored to participate,” Sete added.
Tickets for the event can be purchased from Wantok Clothing at Vision City and MPIP PNG office in Defense Haus, down town.
