To empower women is to empower communities, a women’s association executive says.
Joyce Bay Gulf Women’s Association secretary Philo Mage said this when receiving a cheque of K2000 from the National Capital District Grassroots Network Foundation last week.
Mage said the financial support would assist the Gulf women in zone four area of Joyce Bay area in Moresby South electorate to register in the Joyce Bay Gulf Women’s Association. The association  consisted of five zones, and in their own empowerment programmes.
“We want to register our 10 main groups in zone four into the main Joyce Bay Gulf Women’s Association so we wrote to the foundation and they responded in supporting us. And we are thankful,” Mage said.
“Our main aims and goals are to educate the mothers in our literacy programme and our informal sector.”
Zone four Association member Moi Lari said it was the first time in over 40 years for such assistance to be given to women in the area and they were very grateful.
Foundation patron Michael Kandiu said the foundation, has over 60,000 financial members.
