YET another warning about police brutality has been voiced, with Acting Assistant Commissioner in the Highlands Martin Lakari saying tougher penalties, including the dismissal from the force, will be imposed.

He said he would not tolerate nor like to see or hear of police brutality.

Lakari warned officers that under his command offending officers or those found abusing their power would mean dismissal.

Lakari denied reports police in Mt Hagen shot a 50 year-old woman on Wednesday at Lilinga village, outside the city.

He said no such report had reached his office.

He said if the report was correct he would launch an investigation.

He said the relatives of the victim should lay a formal complaint so that he could act on it.

“I will get on whoever is found guilty as no one is above the law,” Lakari said.  “I do not like to see or hear about police brutality, wife-bashing, sexual offence within the force. I will treat it as very serious,”he said.

Lakari urged the public to lay formal complaints at his office when they become victims of police brutally.
